Swanson-Superior Forest Products, founded in 1973, reflects the foresight and pioneering spirit of three brothers, Rod, Dean, and Ray Swanson. Predicting that small-diameter logs and lumber from small logs would be a growth market, they built a mill in Noti, Oregon. Their pioneering spirit stimulated the growth of Swanson-Superior over almost three decades, creating hundreds of jobs, manufacturing quality products, and setting high environmental standards.

Swanson-Superior anticipated and quickly adapted to industry and regulatory changes. When the supply of small logs from federal lands declined in the early 1980s, the company acquired its own fee timber base of prime Douglas fir forestland in western Oregon.

Through capital improvements and technology upgrades, Swanson-Superior has retained its competitive advantage. Regular upgrades to computerized scanning equipment integrated into the manufacturing process continues to improve product quality and productivity.

Swanson-Superior invests in its employees by continually training to help employees develop advanced skills that ensure the company maintains its position as a leading small-log manufacturer.

The original mill in Noti was built in 1973 on the vision of Ray, Rod, and Dean Swanson. Today that vision remains as strong as ever for the Swansons and the families of Swanson-Superior.
